The Firework shawl is a simple asymmetrical piece that works up quickly and adds that pop of interest to your outfit, all while keeping your neck warm. This is not a heavy duty shawl; suited for autumn or early spring, Firework keeps the chill away while adding style and texture. It’s also squishy-soft on your skin! The all-over stitch pattern keeps the knit interesting, and the final section of eyelet lace adds size and stretch to the shawl without breaking a second skein. Employing only knits, purls and yarnovers along with basic decreases, this is a great shawl for beginners through to experienced knitters, and offers a taste of unusual construction techniques to enhance your repertoire!

This pattern is also available as a kit in my Etsy store! You’ll get a printed copy of the pattern (plus a download code so you can store a copy in your library here on Ravelry) and a skein of hand dyed yarn, in a colourway exclusive to this kit! Check it out here!

Materials/equipment:
Yarn: 1 skein/95gm (approx. 332m) Pickle and Co Fibres Australian Superwash Merino fingering weight in ‘Atomic Jasmine’. Approx 70gm was used for sample
Needles: 4mm/US 6 32” circular needles (long needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches; shawl is worked flat)
Optional: crochet hook of same size as needles used

Gauge:
18 sts and 29 rows over 4” (10cm) in elongated star stitch (after blocking)

Finished measurements:
Approx. 140cm (55”) long x 25cm (10”) deep.

Important! I am left-handed and am a mirror knitter so the deepest point of my shawl is closer to the right hand side of the finished piece. If you are right-handed and follow the written instructions exactly, your shawl’s deepest point with be closer to the left hand side of the finished piece (a mirror image of mine). Please contact me if you would like your shawl to match mine exactly – I am happy to help. Where right or left needles are specified, (i.e. in the bind off) these specifications suit right-handed knitters.

This pattern has been professionally tech-edited and test knit.
